By way of explanation - a made up story is fiction! I hope that stops any confusion in relation to this issue. The foundation of non-fiction writing is fact with no distraction from the truth.
The separation between the two, and progression from one to the other, is when we use our imagination to create a made up story. Then without omission non-fiction clearly becomes fiction!
Still having difficulty seeing this? Please see an optician!

The mathematician was always looking for perfection. He was on a mission to give everyone a good education. There was no confusion when he was teaching his pupils. He was in conversation with the other mathematicians. He had no distractions when teaching his class. His class were always making progression with their work. His pupils were always getting congratulations cards for passing all their exams. He was a very good mathematician.
Well done Lydia.

My scaffold text
I know a mathematician who won a competition, to swap places with an optician for a day. First to come in was a dietician he said, “Congratulations on winning the competition to be honest I am not quiet worried I know how good of a mathematician you are so you are sure to be ok at being an optician.” Well he should have thought before he said that the first part of the test was to show a projection with lots of letter s on it. So he turned on the projection. When the dietician started to say the letters he got them all wrong but the mathematician told him he got them right. His distraction was his schedule he was to busy arranging it for tomorrow. He sent the dietician off saying good work you no longer need glasses. I will tell you a secret that day he crashed into the mathematicians car!!!!
Mission Perfection
Army squad battalion ten were on a mission in relation to capturing a sugar plantation from the enemy. A dietician organised food supplies for the soldiers to keep them healthy on the mission. In case of separation and to avoid confusion each soldier had to study the orientation of the land. The operation would last only hours if the plan was carried out with perfection. It was planned to blow up a nearby building to provide a distraction for the enemy. After an hour, progression was good and the commander had a conversation with the mathematician in the squad to find out the projection angle the canon would need fired at to hit the target with precision. The explosion caused the foundations of the building to collapse and dust got into people’s eyes. They had to go to an optician. This caused a partition in the ranks of the enemy and allowed the soldiers to carry out their plan without omission. The enemy admitted defeat. On reflection it was a mission carried out with perfection. In way of congratulations, each soldier was given a pay rise above inflation.
There was an optician who had a very good conversation with a very smart mathematician. Then the mathematician had a very good conversation with a dietician. the man was looking at his reflection in the mirror and he said there was an inflation in his face and a separation between his teeth. He went to the park and wondered what the whole distraction was about but it was just a dog that had been ran over and wining for help because of the pain.
