Earth's circumference (the distance all the way around the equator) is 24,901 miles (40,075 kilometers). Its diameter (the distance from one side to the other through Earth's center) is 7,926 miles (about 12,756 kilometers). Earth is slightly smaller when measured between the North and South Poles which gives a diameter of 7,907 miles (12,725 kilometers). Earth bulges out a bit more around the equator than around the poles because of its rotation (spin).

The earth is the third planet in our solar system and the third largest planet. Earth was created by gases, dust and rocks. The rocks, the dust and the gases all stuck together to make the earth. Scientists believe the earth was created about 4500 million years ago. The earth moves around the sun once a day. It takes 24 hours to go right around the sun. Earth is made up of different layers. The first layer is called the crust next you have the upper mantle and lower mantle. At the centre is the outer core and inner core. The outer core is liquid and the inner core is solid metal. The centre of the earth is extremely hot.

There are three main types of forests on earth. The coniferous forest, rain forest and temperate forest. We live in a temperate forest area because the leaves fall from the trees in autumn and grow back in the spring time. The only trees that keep their leaves in the winter are called evergreen trees or deciduous trees.
