Royston the Noisy Snake

This week our spelling use the oy sound. Post your scaffold text as a response to this one

Royston was, by all accounts, a very noisy snake. His friends would say, ‘The idea of being a snake is so you can hoist yourself up into a tree and silently coil yourself round a branch and then drop down on your prey without them even knowing you are there.’ Alas poor Royston couldn’t stay quiet for long enough to do this.

One day his friends took him aside and explained he had choices to make. Either he was going to be the annoying, poisonous, noiseless, destroyer that he was meant to be or they would employ sterner measures to get him to conform.

Needless to say sterner measures could not be avoided. Royston’s friends sent him on a voyage of discovery. His most loyal friend, Lloyd went with him and introduced him to the android on the hill, who, happened to have an ointment for noisiness. A couple of applications later Royston was less noisy and actually started to enjoy slithering around, silently creeping and coiling up on his prey as a snake should do.

Gertie the Gloomy Goose

Our spellings this week have focused on the oo sound. Our text on Monday was Gertie the Gloomy Goose.

One afternoon Hugh was watching a cartoon called Gertie the Gloomy Goose. Gertie flew smoothly through Blackpool on a broom when she toppled over fell and bruised her knee. In rage she took off her shoe and threw it at a musician who was playing a flute. He stood up, shook his fist at Gertie, smoothed down his suit and continued playing. It would take more than a bruise caused by a goose on a broom to stop a true flute player.

You know the drill by now - post your text as a comment, check punctuation and spelling. Remember to print out a copy so we can share them in class tomorrow morning after assembly.

My Neighbour Mr Reindeer

Our Scaffold Text this week uses the 'ee' sound
This can be made in many ways - ee, ey, y, ea, i, ie, ei and e.
Write your own text and post as a comment

My neighbour has a silly surname. He is called Mr Rudolph Reindeer. Mr Reindeer has no patience and often complains about the silliest things – mum’s apron isn’t straight, there aren’t enough raisins in his birthday cake, the trailer’s wheels are on the pavement, the café doesn’t open late. When he gets angry he makes such strange faces and his veins pop out on his forehead.
Yesterday was Monday, the first day of the school holidays. It rained so hard that Mr Reindeer’s children could not go out to play. The children waited to see if the rain would stop and were dismayed to find they had to remain indoors. As they played they created mayhem. Mr Reindeer can’t wait until the holidays are over and peace reigns once again.

The Surprised Burglar

Let me tell you the story of yesterday’s burglary. The mystery of the missing silver was discovered by the butler who alerted security. The guards disturbed the burglar as he circled the perimeter fence looking for an escape route.

He had entered the house without disturbing a soul. He slithered with uncertainty from room to room until he discovered the Fern family silver.
‘Ah, perfect. I’ve come to the end of my search’, he muttered as he stuffed the silver into his sack.
The burglar made a hasty exit. As he reached the perimeter fence, he felt a hand on his collar. ‘You have been caught on camera. You must return the silver.’ said the guard sternly.

The Astounding House

You would never believe that thousands of people would travel over mountains, underground, through clouds and by sea to visit the magical fountain at Slough House.

At noon each day people would surround the fountain at the astounding house and watch as the house changed to a clown. Bounce, the clown would bow to the applause of the crowd and astound the audience with his magic tricks.

The audience would shout aloud, ‘What a clown!’. Bounce would count to ten, jump into the fountain and he would reappear in his nightgown.
