Planet Mars Info

The planet Mars was named after the Roman god of war and found four planets away from the sun.
It is often nicknamed " The red planet" because at night, it is a reddish colour. Mars has two moons, called Deimos and Phobos but they are both quite small and are not a perfect sphere shape, like the moon. Nobody or nothing can live on mars because there is no atmosphere. Some people think that things lived on planet mars, like aliens. Scientists sent robots up to Mars, with cameras on them to investigate the planet to see if there is any life. So far, no life has been found. The average temperature for Mars is -63°C which is extremly cold! Mars has mountain/volcano on top of it, called "Olympus Mons" which is the largest mountain in the whole solar system, standing at 24,000 metres high!
If you weighed 7 pounds on Earth you would weigh 27 pounds on Mars.
In total, it would take about 21 months to get to planet Mars and back again.
